Job Description:

Summary: The Healthcare Interpreter facilitates communication between patients with limited English proficiency and their physicians, nurses, lab technicians, and other healthcare providers. The Healthcare Interpreter acts in the interest of the shared goal of achieving the well-being of the patient.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Facilitate communication between patients with limited English proficiency and their physicians, nurses, lab technicians, and other healthcare providers
2. May translate documents from one language to another
3. Schedule appointments and enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler or appointment book.
4. Record when appointments have been filled or cancelled.
5. Telephone or write patients, salespeople and visitors.
6. Answer telephone and either responds to inquiry, direct caller to appropriate personnel or initiate triage slip for response by medical personnel.
7. Assist with other medical office needs including registering patients and receiving payments for services provides.
8. Greet and direct patients, salespeople and visitors.
9. Generate a list of schedule appointments for the office each day.
10. Pull patient charts prior to or upon arrival of patient for appointment.
11. Verify patient’s appointment and time upon registration.
12. Conduct reminder calls to all patients.
13. Verify patient’s record is up to date and accurate. Makes appropriate changes in computer system and on patient’s chart.
14. Generate personalized service form for registered patients in order to document services provided and procedures performed at visit.
15. Assist with other medical office needs, including scheduling, telephone inquiries and cashier.
16. Telephone or write clients to remind them of appointments.
17. Receive payments for services and record them in computer or ledger.
18. Organize and maintain a filing system for patient charts, including generating chart numbers, filing and pulling charts.
19. Function at highest level according to credentials and competency.
20. Positively impact patient experience by demonstrating values of Transforming Care including, but not limited to, courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy.
21. Share accountability for overall patient health outcomes, working in coordination with Care Teams.
22. Operate to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders.
23. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Experience and Skills:

Skills and Qualifications: Ability to quickly grasp the intention of a message in its original language and be able to re-express it swiftly and accurately in the target language. Knowledge of medical terminology in both the target and source language. Ability to interact well with others and take direction from supervisor. Computer skills including familiarity with spreadsheets and databases. Bilingual English/Arabic required. English/Farsi preferred.  

Education and Experience: Certified High School Diploma/GED. Certificate of Healthcare or Medical Interpretation preferred. One year experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Experience working in the medical field.
