Job Description:

Summary: Under direction of the Site Manager and working closely with the providers at clinics, the Referrals & Authorization Clerk is responsible for the coordination of all patient referrals and follow-up care for the clinic patients.


Key Duties:

  • Track all referrals in the designated logs and/or electronically via eCW.
  • Maintain accurate lists of specialists/providers by funding source and other community resources as approved by the Medical Director and/or supervisor.
  • Act as liaison between patient, clinic/providers, specialty care providers, health plans/funding sources and community resources.

Experience and Skills:

Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Excellent computer skills; scanning, spreadsheets, database maintenance. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Strong communication and organizational skills. The ability to work on multiple tasks and be versatile. The ability to interact with a diverse population, personnel, vendors and others. Knowledge of Riverside County Payer sources and authorizations process preferred. Ability to process referrals in a timely manner and convey all pertinent information to providers, insurance, specialties, and patient/guardian.  Use emotional and cultural intelligence to provide appropriate communication and patient care required. 


Education: High School Diploma/GED.


Experience: Minimum of one year experience working in a medical office preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10 and medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Excel, EMR systems, payers, and authorization process required.
